After North Korea reportedly test-fired a missile over Japan, South Korea air force staged a live-fire drill at the Taebaek Pilsung Firing Range that demonstrated Seoul's ability to destroy Pyongyang leadership.

North Korea on Tuesday morning fired an unidentified missile from near the capital Pyongyang, which flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Hours later South Korea's Presidential Office announced that four F-15K jetfighters had dropped eight MK 84 bombs as part of a live-fire drill in the country's northeastern Gangwon province, reported CNN.

According to U.S. air force, the MK 84 is a 2,000 pound bomb designed to penetrate hardened targets.

Presidential spokesman Yoon Young-chan said South Korean leader Moon Jae-in had wanted "to showcase a strong punishment capability against the North."

An official with the South Korean Defense Ministry informed that all the bombs has landed on target.

"The drill reconfirmed South Korea Air Force capability to destroy the enemy's leadership in cases of emergency," the official said.

In the wake of recovery of remains of the parts of missiles, the Japanese Government warned the people in northern Japan to prepare for a potential incoming missile from Pyongyang.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday called the launch of ballistic missile by North Korea as "an unprecedented, grave and serious threat" that damages the peace and security of the region.

Abe added that Tokyo had lodged a firm protest with Pyongyang on the same and added that the government would take "full steps" to ensure the safety of it nationals.
