The Shiv Sena, in its mouthpiece, Saamna, has alleged the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of being insensitive towards popular icons of Maharashtra such as Shivaji Maharaj, Balasaheb Thackeray and Gopinath Munde, and said the latter should first stop opposing 'Vande Mataram' before protesting against the construction of memorials for icons on government lands.
According to reports, AIMIM had earlier opposed the allotment of public land for the construction of a memorial for senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde in Aurangabad, saying that the government should instead build a hospital in Munde's name to help the residents of the city.
An editorial published in the Saamna further said that the first thing done by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi after coming to Maharashtra was to visit the tombs of Aurangzeb and Afzal Khan, who are the greatest enemies of Shivaji Maharaj.
