A report has claimed that the Tory Party deliberately created a misleading impression of a Sikh business tycoon who has been elevated to the House of Lords at the request of Prime Minister David Cameron last week.
According to The Independent, the British government said in its official citation for the new peerages that Ranbir Singh Suri was a businessman and a former General Secretary of the Board of British Sikhs.
However, the report said that the aforementioned board involved only four or five people and has ceased to exist for the last 20 years.
The citation also called Lord Suri a leading figure in Britain's Sikh community, a claim that was rejected by a prominent Sikh organization, the Sikh Federation UK.
Suri has also reportedly donated more than 300,000 pounds to the Conservative Party since 2004 and has been an active member of the party for more than three decades. He is also a member of the Renaissance Forum, an exclusive dinner club, open to those donors only who have donated more than 10,000 pounds to the Tory party.
