Sikhs protested against Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's residence on Monday over his remarks on the 1984 riots in an interview with a television channel last week, and also demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

"We want Rahul Gandhi to tell the names of the people who were involved in the Sikh riots, and we know he is still with those murderers. We want a SIT to probe the matter," said Majinder Singh, a protestor.

"This is not the end, after this we will protest against the PM as well. Congress has to give answers to what actions is it taking on this issue," he said.

In an interview to a television channel last Monday, Rahul Gandhi had denied his party's role in 1984 Sikh riots.

He had said that the Congress government tried to stop 1984 Sikh riots. He offered no apology for the anti-Sikh violence, saying he wasn't part of the riots back then, but the government did work to stop the riots.

The violence, which claimed the lives of almost 3, 000 Sikhs, was triggered after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 by two of her Sikh bodyguards.
