Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Monday said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been set up to probe the alleged encounter of wanted criminal Manoj Vashishtha at a restaurant in the national capital.
"We have formed SIT, its aim is clear that investigation should be conducted on merits and on top speed. Whatever we will do, that is going to be scrutinized by concerned court and National Human Rights Commission," said Bassi.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased held a protest and a candle light vigil outside the Lady Hardinge hospital in the city.
The Delhi Government had earlier ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Vashishtha was shot dead by the Delhi Police in an encounter at the Sagar Ratna restaurant in city's Old Rajender Nagar market on Saturday night.
Following the shoot-out, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
