Smith confident Aussies will find form in home Tests against Proteas

Shrugging off his side's three-match Test series whitewash to Sri Lanka, Australian skipper Steve Smith has expressed confidence that his players will find form in the upcoming home series against South Africa, starting from November 3 at the WACA.

"I've let that go. It wasn't a great tour and I've thought quite a lot about it since coming back home, ways we can improve in those conditions," Smith said.

The 3-0 series whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka also saw them slip to the third spot in the world rankings before they also slumped to 0-5 defeat in the recently-concluded ODI series against the Proteas.

Admitting that results had not gone in their favour, the 26-year-old called on Australia to move forward and look to improve their form ahead of the home series.

"You have to move on and try and improve. I was disappointed with the way we played in Sri Lanka. We probably let a few opportunities slip so we've got to move forward and try to improve in those conditions. There's a lot of work to do there," Smith was quoted as saying by Sport24.

With the Australian players are preparing for day-night Sheffield Shield domestic games ahead of the home tour, former Australia captain Mark Taylor confirmed that only five members of the current Test side are assured of their places.

They included Smith, David Warner, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood in the Test squad.

Pleased to be back on Australian soil, Smith insisted that his side had played some fantastic cricket here and, therefore, he is hopeful to see similar kind of performance from his side this summer.

"I'm comfortable with where we're at back in Australia. We've played good cricket here in the past and hopefully we can continue to do that this summer," he added.

The squad for the home Test series against South Africa is set to be announced on Friday with the likes of Shaun Marsh ,Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh , Moises Henriques,Nathan Lyon and Jon Holland keen to prove their form.
