Somnath Bharti incident was pre-planned by Congress: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Commenting on whether Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti should resign due to the allegations made against him, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said that everything was pre-planned by the Congress, and that they should understand that none of their attempts was going to affect the country.

"I do not want to get into this. All I can say is that the Congress has started all this, and have planned it out beforehand. Whatever developments are happening is this case has been decided from before," said Naqvi.

"But the Congress, and its pawn should understand that the country is ready for a change, and none of this is going to make a difference to the people of the country and the polls," he said.

Janata Dal United (JD-U) leader Sabir Ali said that Somnath Bharti should resign if there is a strong evidence to prove the allegations made against him.

"I would like to say that the way of talking to people should be changed, and the AAP should develop a more sophisticated approach," said Ali.

"If there is evidence to proof the incident, he should resign; otherwise you cannot ask people to resign only based on mere allegations," he added.

Taking a decision on the controversy following the recent raid conducted by Somnath Bharti, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Thursday had said that the Lieutenant Governor has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter and the report would be out in a month.

He also said that Bharti would not be resigning as the Delhi Law Minister.

Yogendra Yadav disclosed that the party investigations found no evidence to suggest that Bharti made racist comments or misbehaved with African women during the controversial midnight raid that he led at a south Delhi locality last week.

Somnath Bharti and his supporters have been accused of illegally detaining Ugandan women and forcing them to give medical tests.

Bharati alleged that a sex trade and drug peddling racket was flourishing in the locality with the help of foreign nationals.

He had demanded that the police take action against the offenders.
