At drinks, replying to Australia's first inning score of 559, New Zealand are at 459/5, with Taylor and Doug Bracewell remained unbeaten at 212 and 19 respectively.
Australia are currently leading the series by 1-0 following their 208-run win over the visitors in first Test at Brisbane.
The two sides will also play first day and night Test at Adelaide from November 27.
