Steve McQueen in talks to direct Tupac documentary

Academy award-winning director Steve McQueen is all set to direct a documentary about singer Tupac Shakur.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary will be supported by the late rapper's estate.

The trustee of Shakur's estate, Tom Whalley and Amaru Entertainment, the company created by Afeni Shakur to release her son's posthumous projects, announced that Nigel Sinclair's White Horse Pictures and Jayson Jackson will team to produce a fully authorised documentary.

In a statement, the 47-year-old director noted, "I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist. I attended NYU film school in 1993 and can remember the unfolding hip-hop world and mine overlapping with Tupac's through a mutual friend in a small way."

"Few, if any shined brighter than Tupac Shakur. I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man," he added.

Recently, the 'Keep Ya Head Up' hit-maker was inducted to Rock n Roll Hall of Fame by his dear friend and rapper Snoop Dogg.

Shakur was the iconic West Coast hip-hop artist, actor, poet and activist, who sold more than 75 million records worldwide.

On a related note, Johnny Depp is set to play the Los Angeles police detective, who investigated the murders of Shakur and his rival Notorious B.I.G. in Open Roads' 'Labyrinth'.
