Student union clashes: Security stepped up in Dausa, prohibitory orders issued

The concerned authorities have stepped up security in Dausa, Rajasthan, and imposed prohibitory orders to avoid any untoward incident in wake of the major clashes that broke out yesterday between two groups of students.

At least 11 people, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) have so far been injured in the clashes that broke out yesterday during student union election of Government PG College.

The Circle Officer of Dausa Police Range, Himanshu Kumar, said that all the necessary steps have been taken to ensure safety of the residents and visitors.

"As of now, the situation is under control. But to avoid any further violence in the area, five companies of Special Task Force (STF) and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have already arrived. The senior officials have also arrived. Tomorrow we have called other forces also to manage the situation," Kumar said.

The clashes have left the locals and commuters in Dausa severely inconvenienced.

Madhukar Gupta, a resident, said the violence has made it difficult for the people to commute.

"We were asked to leave the bus at 6:30 a.m. and then our bus was set on fire. Since then, we are roaming here and there. We waited in the temple, but we couldn't find anything to eat and so we have to go to Jaipur," he said.

Additionally, eyewitness accounts in Dausa have suggested that the youth indulged in destroying public property, stone pelting and vandalizing shops.

Meanwhile, in Ajmer, members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed over the manner in which the student polls were conducted at Kishangarh College.

Clashes in Dausa broke out during the student union elections of Government PG College on Saturday, as students torched six houses and a number of vehicles, including six buses. The situation here still remains to be tense.
