Suresh Prabhu submits Advisory Group reports to Piyush Goyal

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday submitted the reports of the Advisory Group for Integrated Development of Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal. The report covers the contemporary issues and challenges in respect of the the latter's ministries.

In the report, suggestions have been made for the enhancement of coal production in the short, medium and long terms. Improvements needed in Coal India and its subsidiaries including Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) have also been identified and appropriate actions have been recommended.

The report also has also suggested the salient aspects of the coal block auction process, coal linkage rationalization, swapping of coal linkages, need for urgent action on coal linkages to power plants already commissioned and likely to be commissioned by March 2015, railway infrastructure from coal mines to main railway system to be developed through various options, among other issues.
