Swamy describes Uddhav Thackeray as 'modest'

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday indicated that his party would have no problems if Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray takes over as the Maharashtra Chief Minister post the state assembly polls, but said that one must take the mandate of the people into account before coming to any conclusion.

"It is a good thing. He is a modest man, he is a very able educated person, very modern. We think very highly of him, if he becomes the chief minister ...," Swamy told ANI here.

"At the same time in politics, there are rules, there are considerations because we have to measure who has the public mandate. And if he becomes fine, if he doesn't become also it is fine because it will be from the BJP," he added.

Amid the ongoing spar between the BJP and Shiv Sena over seat-sharing for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, Thackeray earlier on Tuesday indicated that he was not harbouring the chief ministerial ambitions.

Maharashtra will go to polls on October 15 while the counting of votes will take place on October 18. There are 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra.
