Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday demanded that an FIR under Section 509 must be registered against Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinay Katiyar for demeaning women.
Maliwal said it is important to teach politicians, who make cheap comments for publicity, a lesson.
"It's a very misogynist statement and it is extremely shameful because they are objectifying a woman, they are violating dignity of women and they need to be taken to task. The Delhi Commission of Women now is making a formal complaint these two leaders and we will be giving it to the Delhi police," said Maliwal.
"We want a FIR registered against registered two of them under Section 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman). It is extremely crucial as we are seeing politicians make such cheap comments to gain publicity and such comments harm the masses of the entire country," she added.
The National Commission for Women has issued a notice to Yadav for his remarks comparing a woman's honour with votes and demanded an explanation within 24 hours, failing which he will have to appear before the panel.
