Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the central government cannot intervene and help the residents of the Campa Cola Society as the Supreme Court has already passed an order in this regard.
"What can we do after the Supreme Court's order? We have sympathy for them but now it has gone to an advanced stage," said Venkaiah.
"Some representation has been made to me also and I consulted with my officers. They told me that at this point of time we cannot intervene," he added.
However, he said that he has directed his officials to study the matter and see if any relief can be provided to the Campa Cola residents.
Earlier, the Campa Cola residents protested after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities reached the society to begin the building's demolition, by disconnecting power, water and gas supplies to all illegal flats.
