Terrorism in South, West Asia discussed at10th India-Russia meeting

The 10th meeting of the India-Russia Joint Working Group on counter-terrorism was held on Monday in Moscow.

The composite Indian delegation led by Preeti Saran, Secretary (East) Ministry of External Affairs and a Russian delegation led by Oleg Syromolotov, the Russian Foreign Minister reviewed the threats posed by terrorism in South and West Asia.

Implications of cross-border terrorism were also highlighted at the meeting.

Both India and Russia condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and agreed that united efforts should be made to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism, including the financing of terrorism both bilaterally and at multilateral forums like Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS), United Nations (UN), Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF), and Shangain Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The issue of radicalisation including through internet was also discussed at the meeting.

The two countries further agreed to strengthen and coordinate the efforts in the fight against terrorism in accordance with the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

Meanwhile, the two sides agreed that meetings will be continued at the expert level and the exchange of information, as well as capacity building, will be intensified.

The next meeting will be held in India.
