A plane crash is definitely a flyer's worst nightmare and so one must be prepared to survive such an incident.
According to the Huffington Post, many airplane accidents are survivable and there are various tips one should follow to secure their chance of getting alive from such a disaster.
The flyer must keep the shoes and socks on, as he/she will have a much better chance of getting out while running over sharp debris and fire, than in bare feet.
One must always practice unbuckling the seat belt, as they might forget the procedure in panic.
The publication says that one should always have a plan and a backup plan, and should count the number of rows to the nearest emergency exit after taking the seat.
Studying the safety card in the seatback pocket is also important, as emergency exits open differently on certain types of planes.
It is also important to not wait for instructions in a catastrophe and get out as soon as possible, as after a major crash, flight attendants and pilots may be incapacitated or have succumbed to "negative panic", which can make them incapable of giving instructions.
