Japanese automobile company Toyota has announced that Camry will remain the top car of the year for America with a reported hike in sales in the seventh month of the year.

Toyota's Senior Vice President Bob Carter said the company will sell more than 400,000 midsize cars in 2013, the Japan Times reports.

Targeted sales will easily fend off a challenge from the Honda Accord and other models in the most competitive segment of the U.S. auto market.

The Camry has been America's top-selling car for eleven years.

Meanwhile, new cars from Honda, Ford, Nissan and others have entered the competitive U.S. automobile market, and are likely to given the Toyoto Camry arun for the money.

Carter said it is important to Toyota that the Camry remains the No. 1 midsize sedan as it is the largest segment in the industry.

Camry sales had fallen two percent from January through June as its main rivals, the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Ford Fusion, recorded big sales.

Its average sales price, 20,900 dollars, in early July was the lowest of nine top-selling midsize cars.

Toyota then offered discounts on the Camry as a response strategy, and its sales grew 16 percent last month to more than 242,000 dollars for the first seven months of the year.
