U.S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy and Vice Premier Liu He to discuss bilateral ties at the White House, on May 17.
Liu, who arrived in Washington on May 15, was invited by the U.S. government for economic and trade consultations, Xinhua reported.
Liu said, under the guidance of Xi and Trump, the bilateral ties have progressed, achieving new heights.
Trump in return said he values the good working relations and friendship with his Chinese counterpart.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on China-U.S. economic and trade ties.
The White House proposed, the US and China should settle the existing problems in bilateral economic and trade relations.
The two nations should prioritize trade and investment cooperation in areas like energy and manufacturing. They should work together to expand agricultural product trade and market access to deepen bilateral cooperation on intellectual property rights protection, Trump further said.
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer also attended the meeting.
