Two New Zealand men, who were involved in a fight that left former New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder in an induced coma, were given non-custodial sentences.

Ryder was injured after an argument with the pair outside a pub in Christchurch in May 2013 and was hospitalised for six days, Sport24 reported.

The New Zealander was able to return to cricket after seven months of the incident.

The two guilty, Craig O'Neill and his nephew Dylan O'Neill, were fined 2,250 and 250 NZ dollars respectively.

In addition to the fine, Craig was sentenced to 250 hours of community work.

The batsman, whose international career appeared to have hit a low after struggling with form, fitness and off-field issues, said that he had 'moved on' from the incident and is in good shape.

Ryder was not the part of the New Zealand's World Cup squad and is currently playing for English country Essex.
