Mexican filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro might soon direct the 'Fantastic Voyage' for James Cameron.

The 51-year-old director is rumoured to take on the remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic film. The story of the film is based on a team of medical scientists, who are shrunk to be sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a fellow scientist to save his life, reports News24.com.

The original movie was directed by Richard Fleischer and starred Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, Stephen Boyd and Donald Pleasence.

It is being said Justin Rhodes and David Goyer will pen the script and they have reportedly agreed to stay on if Del Toro takes on the project.
