Calling it bizarre, women's rights activist and lawyer Abha Singh on Wednesday said that the British woman who had filed a complaint against India hockey captain Sardar Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment, was a 'clear misuse' of criminal law.

"This woman should seek a civil remedy under the domestic violence act rather than treating her affair, her physical relationship as rape. In fact, serious offences like the Nirbhaya's case, they are actual rape ..if you are in relationship for four years, how can a person rape you for four years? It is rather bizarre, it clearly shows that criminal law is being misused and the time has come that the law should be changed," Singh told ANI here.

"India hockey player Sardar Singh was engaged to an hockey player who is of British origin who was into a physical relation for four years. The woman alleges that he (Sardar Singh) made her abort a child so, it is necessary for the police to look into that. A consensual physical relationship after engagement shouldn't be termed as rape because it would be undermining the seriousness of rape," she added.

She further said that if the relationship is registered as rape, then it would be a misuse of the criminal law.
