UN welcomes talks between Afghan Govt., Taliban

The United Nations Security Council has welcomed the talks held between the Afghan Government and Taliban that was brokered by Pakistan.

According to the Dawn, Security Council members expressed their appreciation for "the constructive roles" played by the governments of Pakistan, China, the United States, and the international community.

They said, in a statement released on Saturday, that the talks were "a step towards peace and reconciliation" in Afghanistan.

They stressed the need for the full, equal and effective participation of women at all the stages of the peace process.
