Residents of Ludhiana woke up to a thick cover of fog on Tuesday morning, unusual for this time of the year.
Cold weather conditions seem to be persisting longer than usual in Ludhiana with dense fog causing temperatures to plummet. Traffic has also slowed down on roads due to the fog.
The city has been witnessing similar weather for the past two-three days, forcing people to stay indoors.
"This is the first time in the last 20-25 years that we are seeing such dense fog at this time of the year. Normally this time of the year is warm but it is unusual to see fog during this month," said Ram Kumar, a resident.
Ludhiana experienced its coldest March 9 this year with minimum temperature dipping to 6.9 degrees Celsius.
"Never before has there been such a thick blanket of fog in the city. This is unusual for this time of the year and it should not be as foggy around this time as it will affect crop cultivation adversely. I haven't seen such thick fog in the last 20-25 years," said another resident, Nirmal Singh.
The sudden change in weather has set the alarms ringing for farmers whose crops are at stake. The wheat and potato crops are expected to be badly hit if thick fog prevails for longer period.
