A United States air strike has reportedly killed the Kuwaiti leader of the Khurasan Group, an al-Qaeda offshoot operating in Syria.

According to the BBC, a Pentagon spokesperson said that Muhsin al-Fadhli was targeted on July 8 while travelling in Syria.

US Navy Captain Jeff Davis said al-Fadhli was one of the few al-Qaeda leaders to have known in advance of the 9/11 attacks.
