A US billionaire investor has reportedly bought large stakes in the software manufacturing giant Apple and wanted the company to carry out bigger share buybacks.

According to the BBC, Carl Icahn's stake is worth well over 1billion dollars, making it one of his biggest shareholdings.

As Apple's shares have fallen 30 percent since hitting a peak record of 702 dollars last year, the recent announcement by Icahn has helped boost the company's shares.

Icahn said the Apple's shares could reach 700 dollars again, if it carries out a 150billion dollars share buyback, the report added.
