The Trump administration has decided to send a 'much smaller' representative team to the United Nations Climate Change Summit talks to be held in Bonn, Germany, this year.
Last week, the United States was seriously considering the option of withdrawing from the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that dealt with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaption and finance starting in the year 2020. That meeting, however, was 'inconclusive,' according to The Independent.
The Paris Agreement was negotiated by representatives of 195 nations and adopted by consensus on December 2015. As of April 2017, 195 nations have signed it and 144 have ratified it.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is reportedly planning to send acting deputies and civil servants for the Bonn meeting. They will have no real power to act on behalf of the Trump administration.
President Trump has stated that climate change is a 'hoax' created by the Chinese.
