Virginia shooter James T. Hodgkinson killed

The Virginia shooter, identified as James T. Hodgkinson, who unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the GOP congressional baseball practice on Wednesday morning has been killed in a shootout with the police.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the gunman has been identified by multiple law enforcement officials as James T. Hodgkinson III, 66, from Illinois was killed in a shootout with police.

66-year old Hodgkinson owns a home inspection business, but his home inspection license expired in November 2016 , Washington Post quoted law enforcement officials as saying.

Scalise, the third ranking member of House Republican leadership as the majority whip, appeared to have been shot in the hip and it appeared two Capitol Hill police agents were shot, Rep. Mo Brooks said.

A congressional staffer was also injured. Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods who sometimes practices with the team, was also identified as one of the victims and Sen. Jeff Flake said Mika was the most seriously injured.

The Capitol Police officers who were injured are "in good condition and have not suffered any life-threatening injuries at this point," Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said at the news conference.

"It's too early to tell whether the shooting was an act of terrorism or whether members of Congress were specifically targeted", CNN quoted Tim Slater, the FBI special agent in charge, as saying.

Meanwhile, Scalise was wounded in the hip and had surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Zach Barth, a legislative correspondent for Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) was shot but is expected to make a full recovery.
