Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa of the Pakistan army on Friday said that the army was fully committed to upholding the Pakistani constitution and democracy.
Speaking at a press conference, Bajwa said that the Pakistan army had "clearly extended its support for supremacy of the constitution." At the press conference, he also ruled out any connection with the ongoing 'political activity' in the city.
The tense political situation in the country, orchestrated by the demand of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) parties for the resignation of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had led many to speculate the role of the army, with many suggesting that the political climate has been engineered by the army to devise a coup.
