CBS CEO Les Moonves has explained why the network has chosen Stephen Colbert as the new host of 'The Late Show'.

Moonves told CBS Radio's Dan Raviv that when David Letterman announced his retirement, there were many choices, but Colbert was the one who stood out, CBS News reported.

He said that he and his wife, Julie Chen, are big fans of "The Colbert Report" and he is looking forward to work with the comedian as he transitions to CBS.

Moonves added that when they went back to Letterman with their decision, he loved the choice.
