Will stand by Khan's side if he prioritises human development: Bilawal Bhutto

Soon after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was elected as the 22nd Prime Minister of the country on Friday, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) said that his party will stand by Khan if he makes constitutional supremacy and human development his priority.

Addressing the National Assembly, Bhutto questioned the Prime Minister-designate about his future policies and the "100-day roadmap" to end poverty and to create 10 million jobs. He also asked the PTI chief to find solutions to the growing extremism and violence in the country.

The PPP chairman further criticised the political parties for creating a "ruckus" in the assembly, reported the Dawn.

Talking about his reservation over the election procedure, Bhutto said, "If it weren't for us Mr. Speaker, you wouldn't have your seat and the Prime Minister would not have his."

Bhutto also pointed that the political parties compromised on the basic rights and encouraged extremism across the country.

He went on to say, "As prime minister, I hope Imran Khan will drop the hateful rhetoric. If he continues to fan the flames of hatred, he will have to go through us and he will find us opposing him at every step of the way."

The 29-year-old leader also remembered the people who lost their lives in the violence in Peshawar and Quetta that took place before the recently-concluded general elections.

Bhutto concluded his speech by congratulating Khan on being elected as the Prime Minister of the 'worthy country'.

Khan was elected as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan after the newly-elected members of the National Assembly cast their vote on Friday. He won 176 seats while his opponent and chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif managed to secure 96 seats, the Dawn reported.

He will take oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan at the President House in Islamabad on Saturday at 9.15 am.
