Will train skilled footwear designers for future, says Suresh Prabhu

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Speaking on the same, Prabhu said that a special package of Rs. 2600 crore has been given to upgrade infrastructure and boost job creation in the Leather and Footwear sector.

The Union Minster took to his Twitter handle to state, "Leather is one of most labour intensive, traditional industry, implementing Rs 2600 crores package for them. Footwear will be value added, labour intensive, exports oriented product. Launched new campus in #Hyderabad .Will train skilled designers for future."

FDDI was set up by the Ministry of commerce and industry in 1986 for the development and promotion and allied product industries.

This institute has the status of 'Institution of national importance' as per FDDI Act, 2017 and is providing trained Human Resource to the industry by conducting the long-term programs.

The establishment of the institute at Hyderabad will be an extension of centre in Chennai and will create new products and lifestyle accessories. It will be having a collaboration with renowned international fashion houses.
