National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Annie Raja on Tuesday condemned AAP MLA Somnath Bharti's 'safer Delhi for beautiful women' remark, saying Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal must take action against him as he has time and again proved that he is not fit for his position.
"Time and again he has proved that he is not fit for his position. Arvind Kejriwal needs to think and take a decision about this," she told ANI here.
Raja said that it was extremely shocking for a minister to make such unwarranted comments.
"This is shocking, but not unexpected from him. The ministers on high positions regardless from which party they are, all think alike. They do not know about women's dignity," she said.
"How can a people's representative speak like that? Will you provide safety only on the level of beauty? Is a criteria necessary for safety?" she added.
CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat also echoed similar sentiments and questioned the AAP MLA's mindset.
"Whether a woman is beautiful or not, what kind of mindset is this. We are talking about the security. Why is he commenting on a woman's beauty?" she questioned.
"This is very wrong. It shows the way he thinks about women and AAP must consider it," she added.
Karat also demanded an apology from Bharti for his 'sexist' comment and said that he should be prosecuted for his remark.
Bharti's statement that beautiful women would be able to go out at midnight if the AAP Government takes over policing system in the national capital has made him the target of anger from other parties, women leaders and activists.
