Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to make China a "great modern socialist country" as its 19th National Congress started on Wednesday.
Speaking at the opening session, Xi delivered a report highlighting the achievements in reforms in various sectors and socialist modernisation over the five years of his government.
Xi also outlined a two-step approach to build China into a modern socialist country after the completion of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020.
"We must regard as our goal the people's aspirations to live a better life," said the Chinese President as reported by China's official news agency, Xinhua.
