Youth throng Science-oriented camp in Kashmir

National Institute of Technology (NIT ) Srinagar in collaboration with NIT Delhi organised a five- day science camp with the aim of luring youth towards the field of Science.

Students from across the valley thronged to participate and gather information about the various perspectives of science.

Organiser of the show, Saiqa Sajad, threw light on the various programmes of the camp.

"There are various activites and lectures on life sciences in the camp this year, like the one Hasnain Sir gave earlier, and by other professors who have come. Since it is the international year of crystology, we will also have a talk by Doctor Robab who will tell students about it," she said.

Prominent and award winning scientists from across the country delivered lectures during the camp.

A Padma Shri awardee, Professor Etisham Hasnain was all praises for the camp and called for more of such science- oriented camps.

"I must say I am very happy to see this environment of scientific inquiry that is gripping Kashmir. It is praiseworthy, and it is really very inspiring for people like me to come and see the kids from Kashmir, they are doing phenomenal, they are really wonderful and as I said earlier, Kashmir perhaps has the brightest minds anyone can think of and it is in these minds that we need to invest and camps like this are really doing a marvellous job and we really must support such camps," Hasnain said.

Hasnain was thrilled to know that students have come from far flung areas of the valley, despite bad weather, to be part of the camp.

Students benefitted and gathered information about future options.

"I think they have taken a nice initiative. This helps us to know that we have diverse options in the field of science, and it is not just restricted to medical and engineering, we have several other subjects. They tell us of various other fields and subjects in the world which we can study, we don't have to be restricted to some subjects only, so I think that this is a very good option, it lets us know towards which subjects we are inclined and towards which we are not. Such camps help us know what we would like to pursue in future," said Kaunsar Jan, a student.

This is the fifth edition of the camp. The purpose of the camp is to impart information on the latest trends in science.
