A month back, BMW had launched the 2013 7-Series luxury saloon in the Indian car market, and announced local assembly for the same. Now, the BMW India production facility at Chennai has started local assembling of the 7-Series, and The first model of the saloon has been rolled out from the manufacturing unit. The same facility also assembles the diesel engined MINI Countryman. BMW 7-Series luxury saloon is one of the top luxury cars in the country and is competing against the likes of Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8L and the Jaguar XJ. The locally assembled BMW 7-Series model is the entry level diesel 730 Ld variant.
The new BMW 7-Series is available in four variants - 730Ld, 740Li, 750Li and 760Li priced at Rs 92.9 lakh, Rs 1.12 crore, Rs 1.29 crore and Rs 1.73 crore respectively. The luxury car has received changes both inside and out, making it look very refreshed. The company has tweaked both the powertrains, as the diesel version of the car is now more powerful, and the petrol model is 21 percent more fuel efficient. Both the engines are now mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The increase in local production of luxury cars from makers, indicates that the demand for such cars is soon going to increase. And the CKD route will help the companies to price them competitive, and also help improve their market sales. Another German carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has recently launched the new GL-Class and A-Class premium hatchback, and announced the local assembly for the same in the near future.
