Automakers of the country are utilizing the voluntary recall policies instituted by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers for safety oriented issues. So far, around 17 lac vehicles have been recalled by various car manufacturers. Now, its seems like following Volkswagen’s recall, which was the largest in the history of Indian automotive industry, Honda has also joined the club recalling some of its best selling cars.
25,782 units of Honda’s diesel MPV, Mobilio and 64,428 units of diesel Honda Citys have been recalled by HCIL(Honda Cars India Limited). The 90,210 units recall is applicable for Mobilio MPVs built between June 2014 and July 2015 and Honda City sedans that were built between December 2013 and July 2015. Honda is citing replacement of fuel return pipes as the reason for the recall.
HCIL said, "There is a possibility that in some of these cars, the fuel return pipe may come out, resulting in fuel leakage and leading to engine stoppage".
Once recalled, the repairs will be carried out on the concerned models, free of cost. From 19th December, the repairs and replacement of fuel return pipes will be carried out at Honda dealerships across the nation. The cars will probably be brought to service stations that are in close proximity to the owners.
Prior to this, we had reported that Honda has recalled 2.2 lac units (approximately) of its cars in September, which included Jazz, City, Civic and CR-V, citing faulty airbag inflators as the cause of recall. Honda City however, remains the common denominator for both of these recalls, which might raise concerns about the sedan's build quality.
