BMW will launch the new range of Minis in India on November 19th. The new introductions will include a next generation hatchback, replacing the current 3-door Cooper model, and a first of its kind 5-Door model. Like the current model, Mini hatch will be available in the same Cooper and Cooper S form. While the 5-Door model will most likely get a diesel variant, considering the good response for similarly sized Countryman in the country.
The new Mini is the first model to use the company's front wheel drive UKL architecture. It is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than its predecessor, and the wheelbase has also gone up by 28mm. Whereas the 5-Door model is 4,005mm long, 1,727mm wide, 1,425mm in height, and rides on a 2,567mm wheelbase. In comparison to the regular three-door hatch, the model is 162mm longer and 11mm taller, and adds 72mm between the wheels, resulting into a larger cabin.
Powering the new vehicles is a set BMW’s twin-turbo technology equipped 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines. The Cooper is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder, rated at 137PS and 220Nm of peak torque and under the hood of Cooper S, works a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mill that pushes out 194PS of max power and peak torque of 280Nm. While the top-end diesel trim, Cooper SD, churns out 170PS and 360Nm max. torque. These units are mated to a new set of six-speed gearboxes, including a six-speed manual and a six-speed Steptronic and a Steptronic sports transmission.
Stay tuned to the space to know more about the new Mini range!
