Having enjoyed a year of success with its revived iconic Indian Motorcycles brand, Polaris, a known name for ATVs and off-road machines, has now moved into the sport three-wheeler market with its latest offering 'Slingshot'. Though it’s one wheel, doors and a roof away from being a car, but still Polaris Slingshot still has plenty to be excited about. The triad-esque vehicle somehow looks like a distant relative of KTM X-Bow, and is focused on tearing though tracks and canyons.
When discussing the car, the man-in-charge of the Slingshot project at Polaris, Chris Doucet said, “A three-wheeled vehicle offers an experience that’s just like a motorcycle – the open air and the wind in your face. But the three-wheel stance adds an extra level of stability.”
As per Polaris, the Slingshot is a motorcycle, and requires a motorcycle operator’s license and helmets to be ridden on public streets. The Slingshot is powered by a GM-sourced 2.4-litre Ecotec engine that churns out 171 bhp and 225 nm of peak torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The specs. might not be as appealing on paper, but it should be quite fast, considering the fact that Slingshot weighs only 771 kgs. In terms of physical dimensions, the three-wheeler is 149.6 inches long, 77.6 inches wide and 51.9 inches tall, with a 105-inch wheelbase and a 5-inch ground clearance. The triad-esque vehicle sits on 18-inch front wheels and a single 20-inch rear wheel, while the body panels are made from polymer to guarantee rustproof and better resistance to impacts.
On the inside, the vehicle gets an analogue instruments and a 4.3-inch central display screen, which incorporates a reversing camera, Bluetooth integration, USB audio input and six speakers. In terms of safety, the vehicle comes equipped with Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control and Anti-lock braking system (ABS).
