Budget Allocation of M/O Culture increased by 17.30% in Union Budget 2016-17

The Ministry of Culture has been allocated Rs. 2500.00 crore in the Union Budget for year 2016-17, comprising of Rs. 1755.00 crore under Plan andRs. 745.00 croreunder Non-Plan. The budget allocation for 2016-17 is further increased by 17.30%. During 2015-16, the plan and non-plan expenditure stood at Rs 1417 crore and Rs 714 crore respectively. The current year budget amount has been further allocated to all organisations and schemes which have been regrouped under new eight rationalized/ umbrella schemes. The Plan and Non-Plan outlays for the financial year 2016-17 as allocated are detailed under the following umbrella schemes:

The Budget for 2016-17 has made a provision of Rs 680.63 crore (plan and non-plan) for Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which has 3,686 centrally protected monuments, including 21 World Heritage Monuments, comprising 32 museums, pre-historic stone-age sites, religious places and forts.

About Rs 402.54 crore has been earmarked to Cultural Institutions, while around Rs 409.35 crore earmarked for museums and Rs 244.28 crore for libraries and archives. Among other allocations, Rs 342.50 crore has been allocated for centenary and anniversary celebrations of famous personalities and about Rs 356.88 crore for Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojana.

In 2016-17, the Government of India has allocated Rs 100 crore each for celebrating birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

The above Plan allocation includes provisions for Capital Works, Activities in the North East States (10%) and Tribal Sub -Plan (2%).
