Exports From SEZs Growing Tremendously: PHD Chamber

Exports from SEZs are growing tremendously, increased from US $ 5 billion in 2006 to US $ 100 billion in 2018 along with high rate of growth in investments and generation of new employment opportunities for growing work force in the country, said the industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A whopping growth of exports from SEZs has been registered at 1900% from 2006 to 2018. Employment creation in the SEZs has increased from 1.4 lakh people in 2006 to more than 21 lakh people in the recent times (June 2019), said the industry body PHDCCI.

The Chief Guest for the session Dr L B Singhal, Development Commissioner, North Zone SEZs, while addressing the august gathering appreciated the world class infrastructure of India's SEZ and the many fold growth witnessed in the SEZ exports. Exports from SEZs have not only crossed US $ 100 billion mark but also have created a large chunk of incremental investments and employments generation, said Dr L B Singhal. He further assured that the Government is committed to extend all possible support for significant development of SEZs in India. He mentioned that the Government has taken several initiatives to encourage private sector participation in the economic development of Export Oriented Units (EOUs) or Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in India.
