The Odisha government on Tuesday claimed that the law and order situation remained largely peaceful across the state even though 1.03 lakh cognizable cases were registered in 2016.
A White Paper, tabled by the Home department in the state assembly, said 1,03,602 cognizable cases, including 1,328 murder, 2,144 rape, 566 dacoity, 2,012 robbery cases and other miscellaneous cases were registered last year.
The state witnessed 10,532 road accidents and 1,914 rioting cases in 2016.
Maoist activities in seven districts of the state were under control while four districts witnessed zero such incidents, said the report.
As many as 39 Maoist cadres were killed, 35 arrested and 31 surrendered in the state during 2016.
