18 Indian players to take part in junior World Wushu meet

As many as 18 Indian players, including eight players in Sanshou and 10 players in Taolu category, were picked on Saturday to participate in the sixth junior World Wushu Championships in Bulgaria, starting on September 26.

The team which is currently practising at the national camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Bhopal, will depart for Burgas, Bulgaria on September 26, according to a release from the Wushu Association of India.

More than 800 athletes from 70 countries will participate in the tournament. The competition is divided into two groups Sanshou and Taolu.

Sanshou has 13 weight categories but each country can send only eight players -- five men and three women athletes. In Taolu, there are three age groups -- Group A for 16-18 years old, Group B for 13-15 years old and Group C for 12 years old and under.

Each country can send up to two boys and two girls from each age group (for a grand total of 12) to the competition.

The squads:

Sanshou: Rohit Prashad Sharma, Y. Jaison Singh, Neeraj, Sachin, N. Roshibina Devi, TH. Malemnganbi Devi, Manish Sharma, O. Bidyapati Channu.

Taolu: Sashi Tamang, Rohit Jadhav, Swyam Sopan Katke, Achom Tapas, H. Karnajit Sharma, Sakshi Jadhav, Lopamudra Gohaindev, Geeta Xalxo, Razina Tamang, Khushmanoj Telkar.
