Twenty personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been awarded the Prime Minister's Medal for their exemplary rescue work in natural disasters, including during the floods in Uttarakhand last year.
"The nation faced numerous natural disasters in 2013 such as cloudburst in Uttarakhand, floods in Assam, cyclonic storm Phailin in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. NDRF personnel saved lives of a large number of people in these calamities," the group said in a statement Thursday.
"As a result, 20 personnel have been awarded the Prime Minister's Police Medal for life saving," it said.
The medals will be presented at the closing ceremony of the 57th All India Police Duty Meet at Madhuban in Haryana, March 14.
