At least three people were shot outside the National Security Agency (NSA) complex at Fort Meade in the US state of Maryland on Wednesday, media reports said.
Gunfire reportedly rang out after a car pulled up at the entrance to the facility. Authorities took one person into custody near the facility, the New York Post reported.
Bullet holes were seen in the vehicle's windshield at one of the NSA's vehicle entry gates. None of the victims -- including a police officer -- are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
NSA spokesperson Chris Augustine said the agency's police and local authorities immediately responded to the scene and the situation was now under control. There was no ongoing threat.
White House deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters said in a statement that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the shooting.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected," Walters said.
In March 2015, one person was killed and another seriously wounded after driving a vehicle up to the NSA's gate, ignoring commands to stop.
