96 per cent of newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs are crorepatis

Fifty-five of the 57 newly-elected parliamentarians to the Rajya Sabha are crorepatis, according to a survey released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Wednesday.

The top three MPs with highest assets were Praful Patel (NCP) with a total asset of Rs 2,52,08,96,242 (252 crore-plus) followed by Kapil Sibal (INC) with a total asset of Rs 2,12,53,60,081 (212 crore-plus) and Satish Chandra Misra (BSP) with total asset of Rs 1,93,00,49,059 (193 crore-plus).

The three MPs with lowest assets are Anil Madhav Dave (BJP) with total asset of Rs 60,97,179 followed by Ram Kumar (BJP) with total asset of Rs 86,22,305 and Pradeep Tamta (INC) with total asset of Rs 1,08,65,290.

Media baron Subhash Chandra, who is the chairman of Essel Group, doesn't figure in the list of top 10 MPs with highest assets. According to ADR report, his total declared asset stands at Rs 49,73,55,871 (49 crore-plus) and liabilities of Rs 4,15,02,118.

The survey also states that out of the 57 MPs analysed, 13 (23 per cent) have declared criminal cases against themselves and seven (12 per cent) MPs have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to attempt to murder, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, and theft.
