AIADMK legislator C. Perumal, 62, died of cardiac arrest Thursday at a hospital in Salem in Tamil Nadu.
He complained of chest pain in the morning and was taken to the hospital. He is survived by his wife and four sons.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa condoled the death of the legislator in Salem, around 335 km from here.
With Perumal's death, the AIADMK's strength has come down to 150 (including the speaker) in the 235 member assembly.
The DMDK is the second-largest with 29 legislators, followed by the DMK with 23, the Communist Party of India-Marxist with 10, the Communist Party of India with eight, Congress with five, the PMK with three, the MMK and PT two each, the Forward Bloc one. There is one nominated member.
