Low-cost carrier AirAsia India on Thursday commenced its operations from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad with one daily flight each to Bengaluru and Goa.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) announced that it has added one more domestic airline to its kitty.
AirAsia India will also connect Hyderabad to Cochin with its two daily flights and add two more daily flights to Bengaluru from October 8.
With the addition of AirAsia India, Hyderabad Airport is now served by 9 domestic carriers connecting 33 domestic destinations; while 15 foreign and 4 Indian carriers are connecting the city with 19 international destinations.
"With commencement of the airline's operations out of RGIA, travellers will have more flight options to Goa, Bengaluru and Cochin. The addition of AirAsia India at RGIA is in line with our consistent endeavour to provide our valued customers the best traveling options with more airlines and better connectivity," said GHIAL CEO S.G.K. Kishore.
Another AirAsia group company, AirAsia Berhad of Malaysia is already operating flights from Hyderabad Airport to Kuala Lumpur. The presence of two airlines of a same group is expected to open door in future for seamless domestic to international transfer experience at Hyderabad which is already a gateway of choice for South and Central India.
RGIA has recorded a strong traffic growth in its eight year of operation. Passenger traffic touched 12.5 million, registering a growth of 19 year-on-year.
