Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday condoled the demise of veteran Communist Party of India leader A.B. Bardhan.
Yadav said Bardhan always stood for the cause of the poor, weaker sections, the marginalised and the labour class.
Throughout his political career, Bardhan raised his voice for the weaker sections of society and was among front-ranking leaders of the trade union movement, the chief minister said.
He said the political and social contributions of the late leader will always be remembered.
Bardhan, 92, died in a Delhi hospital on Saturday evening.
