BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday set up a three-member committee to look into incidents of atrocities against Dalit women in election-bound Kerala, and also visited Perumbavoor to meet the family members of a 30-year-old Dalit woman who was raped and brutally murdered.
Shah also attacked Congress government in Kerala over the law and order situation.
"The law and order situation in the state is at its worst. A Dalit women is raped and later murdered, but the state government is sleeping. The chief minister is mum. Who is responsible for this?" Shah said at a public rally at Perumbavoor.
He later visited the family members of the victim.
Earlier, Shah constituted a team of BJP parliamentarians -- Arjun Ram Meghwal, Meenakshi Lekhi and Udit Raj -- to look into atrocities against Dalit women.
The team will visit the state, meet family members of victims, submit its report to Shah.
"Concerned with the growing atrocities on Dalit women in Kerala, Amit Shah has constituted a three-member committee to visit Perumbavoor (Ernakulam) and Varkala (Thiruvananthapuram)," BJP general secretary Arun Singh said in a statement.
On April 28, a 27-year-old woman was murdered in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam. Her body was found badly mutilated. The brutality has led to comparisons with the 2012 gang rape in Delhi that shook the nation.
Days later, another young student was allegedly gang-raped and dumped at Varkala near Thiruvananthapuram.
