The UGC has sanctioned Rs.185 lakh to the Aligarh Muslim University to start a bachelor's degree course in vocational training, officials said Monday.
The University Grants Commission also sanctioned Rs.81 lakh for an advanced diploma in computerised shoe designing.
The first "Shoe Fashion Studio" in northern India was established at the AMU Polytechnic, which facilitates latest technology to students as well as to the shoe industry.
UGC joint secretary K.P. Singh said the commission has established 102 community colleges to make higher education relevant to the learner and the community and to integrate relevant skills into the higher education system.
